Vegetarian Food for Thought
Eating your veggies will hopefully become much easier for you. The intent of this blog is to provide information on eating healthy vegetarian food as well as being able to prepare it quickly and easily. Having been a vegetarian for 22 years, I hope to provide useful information for you. Please feel free to post questions, comments or share ideas with others.
The first thing that needs to be explained are the different levels of being a vegetarian.
An ovo-lacto vegetarian is a vegetarian who does not eat any kind of meat (no beef, pork, poultry, seafood), but will eat eggs (that’s the ovo part) and dairy (that’s the lacto part).
A vegan (usually pronounced veegan) is someone who won’t eat meat nor will they eat anything from an animal like eggs, fish, honey, etc.
Someone who eats fish, but no other types of meat is not a vegetarian. They are a pescetarian.
There are people who take things so far as to only eat fruits as they don’t want to eat anything that when harvested causes the death of the plant. They are called fruitatarians. No, I’m not kidding, it’s true. Sounds silly, I know.
I am an ovo-lacto vegetarian, but as often as is possible I eat vegan. Eating vegan properly in order to stay healthy is a bit harder, but not impossible if that is your interest. This blog will be focused mostly on ovo-lacto vegetarianism. I hope to offer recipies and ideas.
